MEET THE FOUNDERS
“We founded AJ Accessories because we had a difficult time finding jewelry and bags that matched our love for color and handcraftsmanship. We wanted to wear accessories that had a special meaning to us, in which we could feel confident and empowered. But we were getting the message that women over thirty had to wear these styles that did not match our personalities, and we knew many people who related to this. Our company is for valuing handmade accessories that elevate our styles at home, in the office, at the beach, or at a party, while supporting artisan communities and micro-entrepreneurs lift themselves out of poverty.”

mOCHILAs
Mochilas are versatile, gender-neutral bags that can be used for a variety of purposes, including as everyday purses, beach bags, or even as traveling or gym bags. They have become increasingly popular in recent years, both within Colombia and around the world, as people have come to appreciate the unique beauty and cultural significance of these handmade bags. Additionally, the production of mochilas provides a source of income for Wayuu artisans, helping to support their communities and preserve their traditional way of life.

Each mochila bag is woven by hand by the Wayuu people, an indigenous community living in the northern region of Colombia. Mochilas are usually woven using a traditional technique known as the "Wayuu stitch," which creates a tightly woven, sturdy fabric. This process can take more than three weeks, culminating with a product that is not just a bag of the highest quality, but a unique piece of art that honors traditions, cultural heritage, craftsmanship, and sacred values. You can rest assured that these bags will last many (really) years.
